The Part of You They Called "Too Much" Is Your Biggest Business Asset

There is a part of you that you learned to hide.

Maybe you were told you were too loud. Too intense. Too sensitive. Too demanding. Too much. Or maybe it was subtler than that a look, a sigh, a pattern of being shut down just enough times that you eventually shut yourself down first, before anyone else could do it for you.

And here's what I want you to know: that part of you didn't disappear. You just stopped letting her into the room.

She's still in there. And she is probably the most powerful thing you have.

This is what shadow work is really about. Not darkness for the sake of darkness. Not digging through your past to feel bad about it. It's about reclaiming the parts of yourself you were taught to reject because those parts, integrated and expressed fully, are often the exact thing that makes you magnetic, memorable, and undeniable in your business.

You Were Born Whole

Before the conditioning set in. Before school, before your parents' fears got layered onto your possibilities, before religion or culture or society started shaping you into something more palatable...you were whole.

You came in with your light and your darkness. Your softness and your fire. Your gentleness and your rage. Your quiet and your roar. All of it was you. All of it was necessary.

And then, slowly, people who loved you, mostly out of protection, mostly with good intentions started telling you which parts were okay to show and which parts needed to be put away.

Don't talk so loud. Don't be so sensitive. Stop being so dramatic. Who do you think you are?

Sometimes it was that direct. More often it wasn't. It was just the slow, steady message that certain parts of you made people uncomfortable. And so you learned to make yourself smaller. More agreeable. More contained. More acceptable.

You called it growing up. What it actually was, was disconnection.

What Happens When You Split From Your Shadow

Here is what I've watched happen in myself and in the women I work with when we spend years rejecting the parts of ourselves we've been told are bad.

Everything on the surface can look completely fine. You're building your business, you're showing up, you're doing the work. And then out of nowhere you self-sabotage something that was going really well. Or you find yourself numbing out at night when your days are actually good. Or you notice a pattern — a wall you keep hitting, a ceiling you can't seem to break through, a version of success that keeps almost happening and then doesn't.

That is your shadow drawing your attention. Not to punish you. Not because you're broken. But because those rejected parts of you are still in there, still needing integration, still trying to be seen.

And when we don't see them consciously, they find other ways to be seen. Usually the kind of ways that feel like sabotage, but are really just cries to be acknowledged.

The Story I've Never Stopped Telling

I want to share something personal, because I think it will land differently than any framework I could give you.

Growing up, I was told I was manipulative.

I was the kid who could walk into a room and shift the energy. The one who could get people to listen, to see things differently, to feel something they didn't expect to feel. And the people around me — not out of malice, just out of their own limited lens called that manipulation. She always gets what she wants. She's so manipulative.

And I believed them.

I spent years feeling ashamed every time I got my way. Every time someone was moved by something I said. Every time my presence changed the temperature of a room, I would shrink back and ask myself: did I manipulate someone? Was that wrong? Am I too much?

It wasn't until I did the real work of sitting with that shadow really sitting with it, not pushing it away, that I saw what was actually there.

It wasn't manipulation. It was magnetism.

I am naturally magnetic. When I speak, people feel it. When I hold space, people open up. When I share a vision, people lean in. That has always been my gift. But because it was handed to me with a label that said dangerous, I spent years turning it down, dimming it, apologizing for it.

The moment I integrated it the moment I said, this is mine and I'm not making it wrong anymore — everything in my business changed. Because I stopped fighting the very thing that makes me extraordinary at what I do.

That is shadow integration.

Shadow Is Not the Enemy. Suppression Is.

I always think about fire.

Fire without boundaries will burn a whole forest down. It will destroy. It will consume everything in its path. But fire contained. fire in a stove will cook your food. It will warm your home. It will give light in the dark.

The fire is not the problem. The lack of integration is.

The same goes for every part of you that's been labelled too much, too intense, too aggressive, too emotional, too ambitious, too soft, too spiritual, too unconventional. Those things are not your flaws. They are your fire. And the question has never been how to put out the fire, it's always been how to build the right container for it.

That container is integration. It's learning to hold your shadow with the same care and intention that you hold your light. It's saying: I see you. I'm not making you wrong. Let's figure out how to let you move through me in a way that actually works.

What This Has to Do With Your Business

Everything.

The founder who was told she was "too aggressive" and now can't close a sale with conviction, her shadow is her power.

The woman who was called "too sensitive" and now over-explains herself on every sales call trying to soften her offer her shadow is her gift for deep client connection.

The one who was told she was "too much" and now hides the full scope of her vision from potential clients because she's afraid of being rejected her shadow is her genius.

The parts of you that were called problems are the parts your ideal clients are desperate for. They are the reason people will choose you over anyone else. Not your credentials. Not your framework. You. The full, integrated, unedited version of you that stopped making herself smaller so that other people could feel comfortable.

That is your brand. That is your magic. That is what no competitor can replicate.

But you cannot access it if you keep leaving her at the door.

A Question to Sit With

What is the thing about you that you've been told once or a thousand times — was too much? Too intense? Not appropriate? Not professional? Not how things are done?

What if that was never the truth about you? What if that was just someone else's fear of your power?

Sit with that. Really sit with it.

Because the version of you that stops apologizing for that thing the version of you that integrates it, owns it, lets it move through her work without shame that is the version of you that becomes truly unstoppable.
