Why Aligned Decisions Feel Crazy at First

The most aligned decision I ever made made absolutely no logical sense.
And I don't mean that in a cute, inspirational way. I mean my mind genuinely could not justify it. There was no strategy behind it. No clear path forward. No guarantee it would work. When I tried to explain it to people, I could see the concern in their eyes — like they wanted to ask if I was okay, if I had really thought this through, if maybe I should sleep on it a little longer.
I hadn't lost my mind. I had finally found my alignment.
But here's what nobody tells you about that: aligned decisions and safe decisions do not always feel the same. In fact, sometimes the most aligned thing you can do is the thing that looks, from the outside — and even from the inside — like the craziest option on the table.
And if you don't know that going in, you will talk yourself out of the best decisions of your life.
We've Been Taught to Wait for Certainty
From the time we're small, we're taught that a good decision is a certain one. You do the research. You weigh the pros and cons. You wait until you have enough information. You make sure you feel ready before you act.
And in some contexts, that is genuinely wise. I'm not here to tell you to throw all discernment out the window.
But in the context of building a business that is truly yours, one that is built from alignment rather than from what looks good on paper, waiting for certainty will keep you stuck indefinitely. Because certainty is not how aligned decisions work.
Aligned decisions ask you to act first. Certainty arrives after.
Sometimes long after. Sometimes it only comes when you look back six months or a year later and think:
oh. That was the moment. That was when everything started to shift. I couldn't see it from inside it, but that was it.
The path shows itself step by step. Not all at once. And the first step almost always has to be taken before you can see where it leads.
The Deeper the Knowing, the Less You Can Explain It
Here is something I've noticed consistently in myself and in my clients.
The more logically you can justify a decision, the more likely it is coming from your head. From strategy. From what makes sense based on what you've already seen.
But a truly deep, truly aligned knowing? Your mind can barely touch it. It arrives before the logic. It doesn't come with a neat explanation. And when someone asks you to justify it, you find yourself saying things like: I just know. I can't explain it, I just know.
That used to make me feel unstable. Like maybe I was being irrational or irresponsible or naive. Because we live in a world that rewards logical justification. We're supposed to be able to explain ourselves. We're supposed to have reasons.
But what I've come to understand is that when the knowing runs that deep, when it lives below language, below logic, below anything the mind can catch, that is actually the sign of the most profound alignment. Your soul knows before your mind does. And your soul does not speak in bullet points.
The crazy-feeling decision is often the one your whole being has already said yes to. Your mind is just the last to find out.
Why It Feels Crazy: Your Nervous System Is Meeting New Territory
Let's bring the body into this, because this is where so much gets lost.
When you're standing at the edge of an aligned decision, one that would genuinely move you forward, genuinely expand you, genuinely take you somewhere your life has never been, your nervous system does not cheer you on.
It activates.
Because your nervous system is not in the business of growth. It is in the business of safety. And safety, to your nervous system, means familiarity. It means what it already knows. It means what has kept you alive and intact up until right now.
So when you're on the edge of something genuinely new, a new price, a new offer, a new level, a new identity, your body sends up a flare. And that flare feels like doubt. Like fear. Like maybe this is a mistake. maybe I'm not ready. maybe I should wait.
But here's what I need you to understand: that signal is not evidence that the decision is wrong. It is evidence that the decision is new. Those are completely different things. And mixing them up is one of the most expensive mistakes a founder can make.
The discomfort of expansion and the discomfort of misalignment can feel remarkably similar from the inside. The difference is that misalignment usually comes with a flatness, a dullness, a sense of contraction, a quiet knowing that this isn't it. Expansion, even when it's scary, usually has something alive underneath it. Something that feels like yes even when it also feels terrifying.
Learning to tell the difference is the work.
The Ones Who Talked You Out of It Had Good Intentions
I want to speak to something that I see derail women at this exact moment more than almost anything else.
When you're standing at the edge of an aligned but illogical-feeling decision, and you share it with the people around you, the people who love you, who want the best for you, who are genuinely trying to protect you, they will almost always reflect their own fears back at you.
Not because they're bad people. Because they cannot separate their fear from their care. They see risk. They see you about to step off a ledge they would never step off of. And they say are you sure? have you thought about this? what if it doesn't work?
And if your self-trust is still being built, if you haven't yet developed the internal steadiness to hold your own knowing against someone else's doubt, that is the moment you go back. That is the moment the aligned decision gets quietly shelved.
Protect yourself from that.
Not by shutting people out. But by being thoughtful about who you bring your most tender, most alive, most not-yet-fully-formed knowings to. Not everyone deserves that access. Not because they're unworthy, but because they don't have the tools to hold it without projecting onto it.
Find the people who can sit with your vision without immediately trying to talk you down from it. Those people are worth their weight in gold.
What to Do When the Decision Feels Crazy
When you're standing in front of a decision that your soul is saying yes to and your mind is saying absolutely not, here is what I want you to do.
Before you talk yourself out of it. Before you ask everyone around you what they think. Before you spend another three weeks in your head...
Go to your body.
Feel where the decision lives. Is there an aliveness to it? Is there something underneath the fear that has a quality of yes, of expansion, of this-is-it? Even if it's quiet. Even if it's barely a whisper underneath the noise of the doubt.
Because that whisper is what you're looking for.
Then ask yourself: am I feeling this because it's genuinely wrong for me, or am I feeling this because it's genuinely new?
And then and this is the hardest part, take one small step toward it. Not the whole thing. Not the full leap. Just one step. And let that step show you the next one.
That is how aligned decisions unfold. Not in a blaze of certainty and clarity. One step at a time, in the direction your soul already knows is right, while your mind catches up slowly behind.
You Are Not Crazy
The vision you have for your business that feels too big, not crazy. The price that feels too high, not crazy. The pivot that makes no strategic sense but won't leave you alone, not crazy. The offer you want to build that nobody in your industry is building, not crazy.
That is alignment. And alignment has always looked a little crazy from the outside, because it is built from the inside out from your specific knowing, your specific purpose, your specific path.
The world will always be able to give you logical reasons to play it safe. To stay small. To wait until you're more ready, more established, more certain.
Your alignment will just keep quietly pointing in the same direction, waiting for you to finally trust it.
Ready to Trust It?
If you have been standing at the edge of a decision that feels both absolutely right and completely terrifying I want to invite you into The Depth Session.
In 90 minutes, we go into exactly this. The decision your mind can't justify but your soul won't let go of. The vision that keeps coming back no matter how many times you talk yourself out of it. We work with your body, your nervous system, your stories and we help you find the ground underneath the uncertainty so you can finally take the step.
Because the decision doesn't feel crazy because it's wrong.
It feels crazy because it's yours.
